Hello Families,
In math students learnt what an array is and how to make one! They are very excited to learn about multiplication. In writing students chose a setting, characters and problem to write about. The theme of the story is a Spooky story. Tomorrow is Halloween, students are welcome to bring their costumes and dress up in the afternoon. Please do not bring any treats to class. Feel free to send a special snack with your child for them to enjoy individually at snack time.

Veterans Food Bank
The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary is a service provided by CALGARY VETERANS SERVICES SOCIETY, founded in August 2018, to serve food security and other resource needs of veterans from Calgary and surrounding area. The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary supports veterans who served in all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces, Reserves and first responders.
Copperfield School will be collecting food donations starting on October 30 through until November 8, 2023. If you can donate food items, it would be greatly appreciated. Items that are urgently needed are canned meats and chili/stew, ground coffee, flour, cereal, Kleenex, pudding cups, canned mushrooms, juice boxes, granola bars, cookies, rice, pancake mix, hamburger helper, plastic wrap, toilet paper, mac and cheese, and spices. Thank you for your support.

We have had a very busy week! Students have been solving words problems in math. A problem that we solved this week is: If Sam had exactly six coins how many combinations could be made between 75 and 100 cents. Students came up with many different combinations. In english we wrote several sentences on different topics and began brainstorming to write spooky stories. In Social Studies students created flip books in their visual journals to learn about the earth and its continents.

Hello again families!
Today Ms. D. was our substitute teacher! :) She was so happy to see us again.
We also had library and gym!
In science, we had to build a tower using teamwork and different materials.
In English, we wrote about our dream classrooms.
In social studies, we learned a new word "gratitude" and we wrote all of the things we are thankful for.
In math, we had a number of the day and we solved a word problem.
Please remember to dress for the weather and bring all of your winter gear tomorrow as it will be cold and snowy.

Hello Families!
Some of the highlights from this icy day include solving a math problem involving money. Many students were new to the use of coins, if you have time please take out your change purse and practice making a dollar using 6 coins only! In health we continued our lesson from last week on effective communication and took part in team work challenges. Students worked well together and were very effective commuincators!

Today in math we did our weekly Esti-mystery and were very surprised by some of the answers! In English students designed haunted houses that they will write about. In health we learnt about effective communication and played a game to put our skills to the test!

Today we had another busy day in room 134! Students worked on numbers in the thousand place in math. In English, students worked on the cursive letters n and p, it is amazing to see how students are making progress! In the afternoon we had a fire drill.

Hello Families!
Today in math students shared and compared their strategies for two and three digit addition. In language arts students practiced reading in pairs as we will start our guided reading groups next week. In writing students read and wrote fall poems inspired by our beautiful weather! In Social Studies using google earth we reviewed countries and continents and many students were excited to show where their family and friends lived in the world! During science students created a visual journal page about the three States of Matter. A solid, liquid and a gas.

This morning we had gym and math. In math students began adding numbers as we as a class move into subtraction and addition. In English today we wrote descriptive sentences about our fall trees we drew on Thursday. We had music and did a lesson on Wants vs. Needs in Social Studies that will lead us into our next topic of Quality of Life. To finish the day we sketched gourds and labelled them,

It was a great Friday! Students were excited that it was Friday the 13th! We had gym first thing this morning where students played two different tag games and played some basketball. In math we did two Estimysteries and continued to learn how to round to the nearest tenth. Mid morning we had our Terry Fox fundraising assembly, ask your child who got a pie in the face!

Hello Families,
We had a great day today! Students did number of the day as well as making numbers in math. In writing we learnt what makes a proper sentence and practiced writing them using capitals at the proper places, finger spaces and punctuation. In cursive writing practice students learnt the letter M. Our class enjoyed music today when they learned a new song. We also had our first ever day to use the chrome books!

Hello Families!
Happy Friday! This morning students attended an assembly surrounding the Terry Fox run! After the assembly students ran around the pond in honor of Terry and loved ones who are or have battled cancer. Today in math our class did an Esti mystery and used clues to guess how many blocks are in a glass. At the end of the day students wrote about why Terry Fox is their hero.

Today our class:
Went outside for gym, worked on number of the day and were told that we will be attending the open minds program in March! Our class has been selected to be a part of Eco Action school. Which means we will be going to Ralph Klein Park for a whole week in March to learn with and from nature! Students were given their eco action journal today and began working in it.

Our adjective of the day was wacky! We had a great Wacky Wednesday!
In health, we focused on positive self talk and growth mindset. Students completed a STEAM challenge that encouraged them to use positive self talk.
In English/ Art we drew monsters and animals using shapes that we will label with adjectives.
In math students recognized and labelled base ten blocks, ordered numbers and wrote numbers in written form.
Today we had fun lunch.
I have had a wonderful three days getting to know your children. I feel very lucky to have such a kind, hard working and caring class. I look forward to teaching students in room 134 this year!

Hello families!
Today we met Ms. Molsberry, our new teacher! :) We are very excited to have her here!
In gym, we practiced basketball tricks.
In music, we watched a video and played a rhythm game.
In social studies, we played a geography game. Ms. Molsberry is so impressed with our knowledge.
In English, we had a scavenger hunt. We had to look for words that fit into four categories: nouns, verbs, pronouns, and adjectives.
In math, we worked on place value again. We learned how to put numbers into word form.
In English/science, we did some reading comprehension about the zoo.
Tomorrow we have library, please bring your books!
